Awaits the light

Awaits the light – by Pat Malpass

In this veil of tears, we should ponder more
Bout life and love and is it all for
Why are we here to strive and strain
Choices made forever us enchain
Distant visions, goals, unrealised love
Tangled, entwined, reaching, yearns from above
Give me answers, calm my fears, soothe my soul
I come not empty handed; not with begging bowl
How will this life story end, where and when?
Who will decree the time, that I shall live again
Time and fate awaits and down the years of memories
We all shall go forth with love, unafraid
Awaits the light, come now. The debt is paid

Waiting by Jacqui Malpass

Warm summer sunshine drifts over the tile
I look out, trees, blossoms, houses, a road
The road is quiet today, road works kept them all away
The traffic in the distance still roars
Reminds me of stuff that never stops
The cars go on spewing their fumes
Fumes of anger, smoking and venting
Once it was clean, silent and pure
They didn’t stand still, people came and invaded
They came, they thought they could. Find peace
But that’s all that’s here, old age and death
Young people only come to visit, visit you and me
Come for Easter, summer and Christmas then
Go home to cold, grey slabs, houses, with no blossoms
Streets pale, offices tall, rushing streets, no friends
Summer comes again, we are parents in twilight years
TV rages, there is no escape, we are all British here
Our children know, they understand, they care
Night time comes, TV goes off, I pop a pill
Slow, soft, slumber, I wait for the next life to come
